THE SOUNDTRACK

THE CHALLENGE

Creating a piece that can be used as part of a live set design installation that will live on the road for festival season. As starting point: DC Salas musical project.

”Inhale” serie (Julie van Hoye), as part of “We’re Still Here” creative project (2021)

“What started as an open call for a new live show design ended up being a collaborative audiovisual experience with my music as a starting point.”

— DC Salas

THE PROCESS

Music has always been a core element of my creative practice. From ears to eyes, building a direct bridge between two senses adds another layer to storytelling and visual translation.

From festival stages to club experiences, this project concluded with an exhibition at the house music venue C12, showcasing all the artists involved. The event featured a live performance by DC Salas with a set design display by Laetitia Niemegeerseers, directed by Nils Van De Cauter.

THE SILVER LINING

DC Salas’ project was born in the middle of Belgium’s COVID-19 lockdown. Coming out of it, “We’re Still Here” became the shared theme we each interpreted through our own personal lens.

HERE WAS MINE:

Having spent the lockdowns away from my home country, I returned rediscovering Brussels — reconnecting with my people and the city they had lived through.

As a creative base, I walked through its streets, camera in hand, masks on, distances fixed, capturing the present reality and rediscovering what our city had become.

THE TRANSLATION

While working on it, the logic of morphing came naturally. Following DC Salas’ rhythms, the faces began to distort, abstracting into new forms of reality.

Being something and nothing at the same time, merging what it is and what it will be.
